ABSTRACT
No formal guidelines exist for cardiac evaluation of patients prior to hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (HCT).Given a growing population over age 60 planning HCT and increased incidence cardiovascular (CV) comorbidities with age, characterizing complications following associated risks is needed. This prospective case control study sought identify risk factors among elderly CV events allogeneic HCT.Fifty from Loyola University Medical Center undergoing between 2012 2013 were enrolled. Two initially enrolled died transplantation.Inclusion criteria included older without active infections, symptoms coronary artery disease (CAD) or congestive heart failure clinical indication HCT.Patients in immediate need transplant those whom catheterization was contraindicated excluded.42% who underwent suffered post-transplantation event.Median time event 37 days.Patients experienced more likely have had exposure radiation therapy compared the group (p = 0.0147).But there no difference gender, BMI, presence GVHD, number atrial fibrillation factors, Framingham score, tobacco use anthracycline > 0.05) two groups. Our suggests that are common after HCT, HCT.Additional studies needed determine whether improved screening pre-transplantation would lead reduction events.
