ABSTRACT
The presence of high-density defects is rarely observed in the bulk 3 mol% yttria-stabilized tetragonal zirconia polycrystal (3Y-TZP) ceramics obtained through conventional pressureless sintering routine. In present work, fine-grained dense 3Y-TZP ceramic 147 nm was prepared by a commercial 0.25 wt% alumina-doped powder at 1300 °C. A novel discovery reported that large amounts were grain interiors sample. phenomenon further examined using three types samples and reasons for defect formation investigated microstructural characterizations high-resolution transmission electron microscope (HRTEM) analysis Rietveld refinement. results confirmed essential dependence on alumina addition. authors ascribed to be resulted from significant difference ionic radii solvent solute during dissolution into lattice. kinetics proposed enhanced with substantial defects, which consequently favored low-temperature ceramics.
