ABSTRACT
In 2018, the EFSA Panel on Contaminants in Food Chain (CONTAM) adopted a Scientific Opinion risks for animal health related to presence of fumonisins, their modified forms and hidden feed. A no observed adverse effect level (NOAEL) 1 mg/kg feed was established pigs. poultry NOAEL 20 horses reference point 8.8 established, referred as NOAEL. The European Commission (EC) requested review information regarding toxicity fumonisins pigs, revise, if necessary, NOAELs. CONTAM considered that term (RP) effects better reflects uncertainties available studies. New evidence which had become since previous opinion allowed revise an RP from (based LOAEL 2.5 reduced intestinal crypt depth) 1.0 case studies equine leukoencephalomalacia (ELEM)). For previously confirmed further suitable deriving could be identified. Based exposure estimates performed opinion, risk feeds containing FB1-3 concern poultry, when taking into account effects. other solipeds, is low, although large uncertainty associated with same conclusions apply sum forms.
