ABSTRACT

ABSTRACT
The National Accrediting Agency for Clinical Laboratory Sciences (NAACLS) requires laboratory training programs to define and assess students on measurable objectives (ie, cognitive, psychomotor, affective domains). Programs have the flexibility create unique, domain-aligned objectives; these become basis evaluation rubrics. Creating such systems is time consuming. No single prescribed method exists that models desired profession characteristics. In 2015, Centers Disease Control Prevention (CDC) Association Public Health Laboratories published competency guidelines public health professionals. competencies integrate a range of workforce needs (eg, identifying job responsibilities, assessing professional skills) measured across 4 ability levels based Dreyfus Model. Although written professionals, are applicable in academic programs. Oregon State (OSPHL) shared CDC publication, MMWR: Competency Guidelines Professionals, with Portland Community College Medical Technology (MLT) Program Director (PD) intent use curriculum enhancement. Many allied competency-based skills/knowledge/abilities. Prior research medical education demonstrates improves outcomes provides assessment strategies. PD worked OSPHL evaluate Morbidity Mortality Weekly Report (MMWR) domains most relevant clinical field. We mapped align general expectations NAACLS requirements. This poster outlines our process integrating MMWR into an existing MLT program compare modeling industry skills laboratorians.
