Prospective Community-based Study of Still Births in Remote Villages with Low Resources

ABSTRACT
Background: Stillbirth (SB), either because of intrauterine or intrapartum fetal death, is amongst the most devastating pregnancy complications, hardest to predict, real challenge for health systems. India probably accounts highest SB numbers in world. Objectives: A community-based prospective study was carried out know burden, and causes SBs rural women remote regions. Material methods: After approval ethics committee Institute Maharashtra broader research, which service-oriented, present conducted 100 villages around village with facilities. These were included keeping mind future services. obtaining consent women, information prospectively recorded on their predesigned tool (which work), by asking seeing records antenatal intranatal care a regular basis. Study remote, hilly regions various local issues so any told record used. Results: total 3905 births occurred over two years, 3635 (93%) term, 270 (7%) preterm. Amongst term births, 3474 (95.6%) live 161 (4.4%) SBs, preterm 239 (88.5%) 31 (11.5%) SBs. Of 192 48 (7.2%) 2690 anaemia, (16 (2.4%) very severe 12 (1.8%) 667 664 moderate 8(1.2%) 680 mild anaemia). Overall (4.9%) (18.1%) among 517 hypertensive disorders (HDsP) 8 280 HDsP, (6.9%) 175 11 (6.8%) 62 eclampsia. 6 (3.1%) babies had weight < 1 kg, (4.1%) ≥ 1.5 50 (26.0%) 2 64 (33.3%) 2.5 kg more, obviously fewer more deaths birth less than 1. kg. Conclusion: but 4.5% did occur no disorder. significantly higher weighing beyond this weight, similar.
