ABSTRACT
AbstractGrasses of the genus Urochloa (Urochloa species syn. Brachiaria species) are among most important tropical forage grasses African origin. The International Livestock Research Institute (ILRI) Forage Genebank maintains 671 grass accessions, belonging to 28 species, which 261 (39%) accessions brizantha (A.Rich.) R.D.Webster. susceptibility disease and insect pests is a key challenge sustainable production these in Africa. In this study, using dot blot assay RT-PCR, we report for first time association Alfalfa Mosaic Virus (AMV) Southern Bean (SBMV) with 92% tested conserved situ ex ILRI genebank. addition, virus transmission from seed plant legume was confirmed through bioassay test. detection two viruses presents new germplasm conservation, distribution, their region, demands immediate attention towards developing an effective method cleaning germplasm. Furthermore, there urgent need assess economic importance diseases grasses, selection that shows resistance diseases. Keywords: AMVforage diseasesSBMVUrochloa
