ABSTRACT
In this study, the authors conducted a detailed simulation of side collision process for an SUV model using finite element method (FEM) and Hyperworks software. The specific used in was from Nissan, with various boundary conditions incorporated into to replicate real-world crash scenarios closely. These included factors such as road surface, column, angle impact, interactions between different parts vehicle. For speed, adhered National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) standards, choosing speed 32km/h, which is typical side-impact testing. simulated against fixed column at 75 degrees assess vehicle's response. results were then evaluated based on standards set by Insurance Institute (IIHS), specifically guidelines outlined their April 2024 standards. evaluation focused critical aspects penetration components driver's position location where car door made contact column. indicated that structure demonstrated sufficient durability, materials its construction providing adequate protection. Moreover, elements did not compromise safety occupants, distance center seat impacted reduced 35.57cm, still well above threshold 18cm. This result confirms vehicle design meets necessary collisions, ensuring protection driver during event.
