ABSTRACT
Objectives: Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorders (FASD) is a worldwide problem. Maternal alcohol consumption an important risk factor for FASD. It remains unknown which patterns most strongly predict The objective of this study was to identify these.Design: Systematic literature review. Methods: We searched in PubMed, PsychINFO, PsycARTICLES, ERIC, CINAHL, EMBASE and MEDLINE upto August 2018. query consisted keywords their synonyms related FASD, pregnancy, behavior. Studies were excluded when not published English, reviews, or involved non-human subjects. Substantial heterogeneity precluded aggregation meta-analysis the data. Instead, data qualitatively inspected. Results: In total, 21 studies eligible further analysis. All that measured both maternal drinking behaviors FASD reported retrospective on patterns, employing continuous categorical measures exhibiting substantial (e.g., timing exposure, quantification measure, definition standard drink). Study quality improved over time appeared higher based active case ascertainment, especially conducted schools, behavior assessed through interviews. Conclusions: aimed specific behavior(s) state ofthe precludes such conclusions. Evidence-based preventive necessitate identifying prenatal are need intervention. Therefore, we formulate three recommendations future research. First, can optimize value collected dataset specifying measurements reporting behaviors, avoiding categorized (nominal ordinal) whenever possible. Second, samples should be selected status, but instead, status as well general population sample. Finally, provide ten guidelines
