ABSTRACT
English-speakers sometimes say that they feel moved to tears, emotionally touched, stirred, or something warmed their heart; other languages use similar passive contact metaphors refer an affective state. We propose and measure the concept of kama muta understand experiences often given these labels. Do same evoke emotion across nations languages? conducted studies in 19 different countries, five continents, 15 languages, with a total 3542 participants. tested construct while validating comprehensive scale appraisals, valence, bodily sensations, motivation, lexical labels posited characterize muta. Our results are congruent theory previous findings showing is distinct positive social relational evoked by experiencing observing sudden intensification communal sharing. It commonly accompanied warm feeling chest, moist eyes chills piloerection, choked up having lump throat, buoyancy exhilaration. motivates devotion moral commitment While we observed some variations cultures, facets highly correlated every sample, supporting validity measure.
