Utterly Unbelievable: The Discourse of ‘Fake’ SOGI Asylum Claims as a Form of Epistemic Injustice

ABSTRACT
Media and political debates on refugees migration are dominated by a discourse of ‘fake’ ‘bogus’ asylum claims. This article explores how this affects in acute ways those people claiming grounds sexual orientation or gender identity (SOGI). In particular, shows such ‘fakeness’ goes much beyond the well-documented often inadequate credibility assessments carried out authorities. By framing analysis within context scholarship epistemic injustice drawing large body primary secondary data, reveals SOGI claims permeates conduct not only adjudicators, but also all other actors system, including NGOs support groups, legal representatives even claimants themselves. Following from theoretically-informed exploration concludes with impossibility determining ‘truth’ cases, while offering some guidance means that can be employed to alleviate produced system against refugees.
