Prevalence of Hypovitaminosis D in Patients Visiting a Tertiary Care Center in Chitwan, Nepal

ABSTRACT
Background: As documented by a large body of evidences, Hypovitaminosis D prevails both in the general and hospitalized populations. We conducted this study to determine prevalence hypovitaminosis amongst patients visiting tertiary care hospital compare rate gender-wise, across different categories socio-demographic variables. Methods: It was cross-sectional (retrospective chart review) based on registry at College Medical Sciences Teaching Hospital, Bharatpur, Chitwan, Nepal. From registry, we retrieved variables (age, gender, ethnicity season) along with serum vitamin (25-hydroxy-cholecalciferol) concentrations subjects from January 2015 August 2018, for our analysis. defined as <30 ng/mL (insufficiency: 20-30ng/mL deficiency: <20 ng/mL). Results: The overall 70.7% 35.9% 34.8%), 72.4% (females), 64.2% (males), 76.3% (first age-quartile), 74.5% (miscellaneous ethnic group), 73.9% (Spring). Females had higher rates (and lower median 25-hydroxy-cholecalciferol lev-els) compared males, participants, those under each category age, season (except Winter). Conclusions: greater females than males face high hospital-visiting clearly calls necessary strategies form further studies judicious prescription supplementary target population.
