Maxillary Sinus Septa: Prevalence and Variation with Gender and Location

ABSTRACT
Introduction: Maxillary sinus septa are partitions of cortical bone dividing the into multiple compartments. Their presence and dimension relevance to periodontists, oral maxillofacial surgeons as well otolaryngologists. Objective: To determine prevalence maxillary its variation with gender location in sampled Nepali population. Methods: An analytical cross-sectional study was conducted Department Periodontics, Kantipur Dental College Teaching Hospital Research Centre after ethical clearance from Institutional Review Committee. Convenience sampling done for 433 orthopantomograms (OPGs) clearly visible absence pathological or developmental changes. Each OPG observed septa. Presence noted along position site Gender subjects also noted. Statistical analysis performed via SPSS 21.0. Results: Among radiographs, 148 (34.18%) showed Septa were more prevalent among males (84, 56.76%) than females 64 (43.24%); statistically significant difference (P <0.05). Unilateral occurrence (97, 65.54%) greater bilateral (51, 34.46%). onclusion: This may serve baseline data aid treatment planning during dental implant placements surgical procedures sinus.
