ABSTRACT
Three mutants isolated according to differed morphological traits were from the M2 progeny of gamma ray-irradiated Solanum melongena L. var. PPL, viz. PPL-j3 (5kR), PPL-k3-1 (15 kR), and PPL-k3-2 kR). The seeds selected generation collected individually grown in M3 generation, separately data on various quantitative traits, such as plant height (cm), number branches per plant, fruits fruit weight (g), size 1000-seed yield (kg) recorded for all three mutants. morphologically quite distinct, compared control each other. average performance different was better a high yielding mutant (PPL-j3) control, while other two (PPL-k3-1 PPL-k3-2), poor observed. Cytological analysis revealed almost normal chromosomal set screened 5 kR irradiated population, except few aberrations. higher frequency meiotic aberrations 15 population. However, these irregularities decreased at anaphase, exhibiting recovery later stages. A reduction pollen fertility also kR, indicating low set.
