Lessons from Flood Disaster Management of Khuzestan Province, Iran, Based on the Experiences of Policymakers: A Qualitative Study

ABSTRACT
Background: Floods are among the most destructive crises in various countries, including Iran, and considered a national issue. To reduce flood damages, management process must be regularly reviewed its problems identified. Objectives: Therefore, present study aimed to focus on April 2019 Khuzestan province, investigate disaster Iran based experiences of policymakers, identify problems, improve management, damage future. Methods: This was designed qualitative content analysis. Data collected using one-on-one, semi-structured interviews with open-ended questions. According targeted sampling method, six policymakers related were selected as interviewees. Interviews continued until data saturation. Results: After analysis, three main themes identified, namely 1) actions before disaster, such provision infrastructure public awareness, 2) during level assessment coordination actions, 3) after assessment. It should mentioned that each theme included sub-themes categories. Conclusion: Increased effectiveness requires integration centralization between organizations involved at all stages before, during, disaster. is also necessary pay attention research successful models implement preparedness programs along drills prevent damage.
