An ecological survey of Laro-limicolae in Northeastern Algeria

ABSTRACT
We conducted an inventory and characterization of Laro-limicolae settlement at three Ramsar sites located in Eastern Numidia (Lake Tonga, Lake Oubeira El Mellah lagoon) between 2014 2016. identified 27 species belonging to six families, dominated by Scolopacidae (10 sp.) Laridae (9 followed Charadriidae (4 sp.), Recurvirostridae (2 for Glareolidae Haematopodidae families (1 Inventoried exhibited different phenological status: resident (26%), wintering (44%), migratory breeders (19%) wintering/breeding (11%). Population analysis showed the presence protected such as black-tailed godwit Northern lapwing. Bird counts monthly variations total abundance richness, peaking during winter. Highest numbers were recorded January lowest August. Analysis diversity equitability indices indicated that maximum values (H’ = 3.01 E 0.94) noted lagoon November June. Our study provides recent unpublished data on a group birds are little-documented North Africa, particularly Algeria. findings open way further, more detailed work subject, may serve develop action plans management conservation these bird populations their habitats.
