ABSTRACT
<ns3:p>Background The epidemiology of traumatic brain injury (TBI) is unclear – it estimated to affect 27–69 million individuals yearly with the bulk TBI burden in low-to-middle income countries (LMICs). Research has highlighted significant between-hospital variability outcomes following emergency surgery, but overall incidence and remains unclear. To address this need, we established Global Epidemiology Outcomes Traumatic Brain Injury (GEO-TBI) registry, enabling recording all cases requiring admission irrespective surgical treatment. Objective GEO-TBI: Incidence study aims describe according development indices, highlight best practices facilitate further comparative research. Design Multi-centre, international, registry-based, prospective cohort study. Subjects Any unit managing participating GEO-TBI registry will be eligible join Each select a 90-day period. All patients meeting inclusion criteria (neurosurgical/ICU or neurosurgical operation) during selected period included Incidence. Methods units form team, that gain local approval, identify input data. Data collected via secure platform validated after collection. Identifiers may if required for utility accordance protocol. related initial presentation, interventions short-term line core dataset, developed consensus from an iterative survey feedback process. Patient demographics, details, timing nature post-injury care alongside associated complications. primary outcome measures Glasgow Outcome at Discharge Scale (GODS) 14-day mortality. Secondary mortality extended (GOSE) most recent follow-up timepoint.</ns3:p>
