Establishing a Patient-centered Longitudinal Integrated Clerkship: Early Results from a Single Institution

ABSTRACT
Longitudinal integrated clerkships (LICs) have been adopted by medical schools to overcome the limitations of traditional block clerkship rotations and promote continuity care. In 2018, Seoul National University College Medicine introduced a patient-centered LIC program as part new curriculum in parallel with rotation clerkships. The purpose this study was present investigate its educational effects.In 2018 2019, total 298 third-year students participated program. We divided into groups eight, which were organized corresponding discussion classes. Throughout academic year, followed up patients interviewing them at hospital or reviewing their electric records. Discussion classes on set topics held seven times per year facilitators clinical faculites. Students completed course evaluation questionnaire end year. included 22 items measured 5-point scale two open-ended questions asking about benefits covered three domains: student experience, satisfaction, self-assessment. Final reflective essays collected both assessments data for qualitative analysis.During period, overall experience improved. increased number faculty members decreased each class. also provided additional feedback through an e-portfolio. Students' satisfaction changed positively. Compared rotational clerkship, answered that help learning core competencies.
