ABSTRACT
We aimed to evaluate the histologic and radiologic findings of vascular lesions after stereotactic radiosurgery (SRS) categorized as radiation-induced cavernous hemangioma (RICH).Among 89 patients who underwent neurosurgery for hemangioma, eight RICHs from 7 10 de novo CHs were selected histopathological radiological comparison.Histologically, showed hematoma-like gross appearance. Microscopically, RICH exhibited a area accompanied by proliferation thin-walled vasculature with fibrin deposits infiltrating foamy macrophages. In contrast, demonstrated localized malformed containing fresh old clotted blood on examination. Typically, consisted thick, ectatic hyalinized vessels lined endothelium under light microscope. Magnetic resonance imaging revealed some overlapping but distinct features CHs, including enhancing cystic solid components absence or incomplete popcorn-like appearance partial hemosiderin rims.Together findings, may result blood-filled space tissue destruction SRS, reactive changes rather than malformation. Thus, term "RICH" would be inappropriate, because it is more likely an inactive organizing hematoma vasculature.
