ABSTRACT
Reactive oxygen species (ROS), such as the superoxide anion or hydrogen peroxide, have been established over decades of research as, on one hand, important and versatile molecules involved in a plethora homeostatic processes and, other inducers damage, pathologies diseases. Which effects ROS induce, strongly depends cell type source, amount, duration location production. Similar to cellular pH calcium levels, which are both strictly regulated only altered by when necessary, redox balance is also tightly regulated, not level whole but every compartment. However, still widespread view present scientific community that production no major importance randomly diffuse from their source throughout hit redox-sensitive targets passing by. Yet, evidence growing cells regulate therefore controlling activation well localization, amount Hopefully, future studies field biology will consider these factors analyze more specifically order revise freely flowing through cell.
