ABSTRACT
Carotid atherosclerosis (CAS) is a reflection of systemic and the main pathological processes cardiovascular disease (CVD), namely, carotid intima-media thickening, plaque formation, stenosis. Accumulating evidence indicates that gut microbiota plays an important role in CVD gut-brain disorders, but associations composition metabolites microbiome with CAS have not been studied comprehensively. We performed genome-wide association study 31 patients 51 healthy controls using whole-genome shotgun sequencing. found several risk factors (waist circumference, body mass index, diastolic blood pressure, systolic fasting glucose, glycated hemoglobin A1c, total cholesterol, triglyceride, low-density lipoprotein cholesterol) inflammatory markers (white cell count absolute value neutrophils) were significantly higher group than control group. In addition, 21 species 142 pathways enriched group, 10 1 pathway Specifically, Bacteroides eggerthii, Escherichia coli, Klebsiella pneumoniae most abundant whereas Parabacteroides unclassified, Prevotella copri, sp 3_1_19, Haemophilus parainfluenzae Finally, we microbes microbial had significant positive correlations clinical characteristics, negative characteristics excluding high-density cholesterol. between some (short-chain fatty acid, lipopolysaccharide, menaquinol biosynthesis) identified. Our results indicate existence cyclic elevates circulating concentrations trimethylamine-N-oxide reduces its controls.
