ABSTRACT
The aim of the study was to characterize population structure and assess genetic diversity warmblood horses used in show jumping discipline. Pedigree data 1,048 participating Polish Championships for Young Horses were analyzed. pedigree these animals included 12 863 individuals. consisted analysis characterization homozygosity population. It found that completeness depth sufficient reliable assessment analyzed Although average inbreeding coefficient exhibited at an acceptable level (approx. 1.01%), increasing percentage inbred seems disturbing. results have shown modern sport are derived from a small number high-quality sires whose offspring intensively breeding—bottleneck effect. In consequence, greater part variation reduction observed non-founder generations. Given changes studied population, should be monitored, effectively selection mating.
