Prevalence and determinants of RH alloimmunization in Rh-negative women in teaching hospitals of Addis Ababa, Ethiopia: a hospital-based cross-sectional study

ABSTRACT
Despite the implementation of immunization with an anti-D antigen for pregnant women, adverse pregnancy outcomes continue to occur in Ethiopia and most Sub-Saharan African countries. Consequently, woman's obstetric care is compromised, there increase perinatal morbidity mortality. In Ethiopia, burden disease not well understood, no research has been conducted study area. Therefore, this aims determine prevalence determinants Rh alloimmunization Rh-negative women receiving at Addis Ababa teaching hospitals.An institutional-based cross-sectional was from 5 October 2020 May 2021, among 328 who received antenatal delivery services Teaching Hospitals under University. Face-to-face interviews were used gather data using a pre-tested structured questionnaire, chart review performed checklist. The entered into Epidata version 3.1 analyzed SPSS 22. Multivariable analysis logistic regression evaluate predictors, results presented as adjusted odds ratio (AOR) 95% confidence interval. Statistical significance declared p-value < 0.05.Among Rh-D negative individuals, 56(17.1%) alloimunized CI (15.1%, 19.23%). 2.1% (1.56%, 2.76%). Factors such unemployment [AOR = 2.28, CI: 1.21, 4.28], failure use prophylaxis previous 2.08, 1.10, 3.92), presence sensitizing events 0.52, 0.27, 0.84] statistically significant outcome variables.This pointed out that relatively large almost one every five alloimunized. found be associated variables. all stakeholders concerned entities should prioritize enhancing access affordability prevent occurrence its outcomes.
