No Genetic Causal Association Between Periodontitis and Arthritis: A Bidirectional Two-Sample Mendelian Randomization Analysis

ABSTRACT
Periodontitis (PD) has been linked to arthritis in previous epidemiological observational studies; however, the results are inconclusive. It remains unclear whether association between PD and is causal. The purpose of this study was investigate causal with arthritis, including rheumatoid (RA) osteoarthritis (OA).We performed a two-sample bidirectional Mendelian randomization (MR) analysis using publicly released genome-wide studies (GWAS) statistics. inverse-variance weighted (IVW) method used as primary analysis. We applied four complementary methods, median, mode, MR-Egger regression MR pleiotropy residual sum outlier (MR-PRESSO) detect correct for effect horizontal pleiotropy.Genetically determined did not have on OA (OR = 1.06, 95% CI: 0.99-1.15, P 0.09) RA 0.99, 0.87-1.13, 0.89). Furthermore, we find significant reverse regression, Weighted Median, Mode methods were consistent those IVW method. Horizontal unlikely distort estimates according sensitivity analysis.Our reveals non-causal despite reporting an arthritis.
