ABSTRACT
The spotted lanternfly, a newly invasive insect in the U.S. that is great concern for grapevine industry, produces damage on its host plants through aggressive feeding, using piercing and sucking method to feed phloem of plants. In eastern US, adult SLF can invade vineyards fruit ripening until end growing season; however, it still unclear how prolonged late-season feeding affect health grapevines, as well responses this extensive damage. Thus, we have performed comprehensive genome-wide transcriptome analysis grapevines heavily infested by occurs Pennsylvania vineyards, compared other relevant transcriptomes grapes with different degrees susceptibility similar pests. Among variety plant responses, highlight here subset biological pathways distinguish or are common lanternfly feeders grapevine. molecular interaction between vine begins activation signal transduction cascades mediated mainly protein kinase genes. It also induces expression transcription factors nucleus, signaling molecules like phytohormones secondary metabolites, their downstream target genes responsible defense physiological functions, such detoxification photosynthesis. Grapevine furthermore include cell wall strengthening via biosynthesis major structural components. With study, hope provide regulatory network explain effects has goal improve susceptibility.
