ABSTRACT
Shallow coastal waters (SCWs) have attracted wide attention in recent years due to their strong carbon sequestration capacity. However, the complex dioxide (CO 2 ) dynamics water column makes it difficult estimate air–water CO fluxes (F CO2 accurately. We developed a numerical model of based on field measurements for typical stratified semi-enclosed shallow bay: Yatsushiro Sea, Japan. The showed an excellent ability reproduce stratification and Sea. Through simulations, we analyzed annual Sea 2018. results show that effect seawater varies greatly depending distance from estuary period. In estuarine region, manifests itself throughout year by promoting maintenance high partial pressure (pCO surface waters, resulting pCO being higher than atmospheric up 40 days during flood period (average 539.94 µatm). contrast, areas farther estuary, mainly acts promote periods freshwater influence. Then changes lower before influence leads towards complete dissipation. Finally, estimated F 2018, was sink area 2018 (−1.70 mmol/m /day).
