ABSTRACT
This study aims to retrospectively evaluate the association between pericarotid inflammation and presence of embolic stroke undetermined source (ESUS).In total, 126 patients with ESUS 118 ischemic from large artery atherosclerosis (LAA) were enrolled. All underwent brain MRI a neck CT angiography (CTA) examination. Reviewers blinded infarct location cause. Paired t-tests assessed within-subjects differences in mean Hounsfield units (HUs) carotid perivascular fat cerebral infarction side contralateral for LAA cases. The unpaired Student's t-test was used assess between-subjects HUs cases. In both cases cases, density around ipsilateral significantly increased compared position groups (ESUS -56.31 ± 18.70 vs. -67.31 20.01, p = 0.000; -51.62 19.95 -64.58 22.68, 0.000). However, there no significant difference positions (ipsilateral 19.95, 0.059; 20.01 0.320).We found surrounding ESUS, suggesting an inflammatory reaction that extends beyond vessel lumen risk factor profile similar strokes.
