ABSTRACT
Background Pediatric Early Warning Systems (PEWS) aid in identification of deterioration hospitalized children with cancer but are underutilized resource-limited settings. Proyecto EVAT is a multicenter quality improvement (QI) collaborative Latin America to implement PEWS. This study investigates the relationship between hospital characteristics and time required for PEWS implementation. Methods convergent mixed-methods included 23 childhood centers; 5 hospitals representing quick slow implementers were selected qualitative analysis. Semi-structured interviews conducted 71 stakeholders involved Interviews recorded, transcribed translated English, then coded using priori novel codes. Thematic content analysis explored impact QI experience on implementation was supplemented by quantitative exploring time. Results In both analysis, material human resources support significantly impacted Lack produced various obstacles that extended necessary centers achieve successful Hospital characteristics, such as funding structure type, influenced determining their resource-availability. Prior or leader QI, however, helped facilitate assisting predict overcome resource-related challenges. Conclusions prior helps anticipate adapt resource challenges more quickly training should be component strategies scale-up use evidence-based interventions like
