ABSTRACT
Purpose Primary central nervous system (CNS) tumors are the second most common cancer in children and adolescents, leading to premature death disability. Population-based survival estimates aid decision-making control, however data on for primary CNS Latin America is lacking. We describe rates with treated ten Colombian cities. Methods analyzed from adolescents newly diagnosed between 2012 2021, participating Childhood Cancer Clinical Outcomes Surveillance System (VIGICANCER) cities Colombia. VIGICANCER collects information clinical outcomes twenty-seven pediatric oncology units conducts active follow-up every three months. does not register craniopharyngiomas; we excluded intracranial germ cell this report. used Kaplan-Meier method estimate overall probability, stratified by sociodemographic variables, topography, WHO grading, receipt of radiation therapy, type surgical resection. prognostic capacity variables using multivariate proportional Cox’s regression, city year diagnosis. Results During study period, included 989 879 110 adolescents. The cohort median age was 9 years; 53% patients were males, 8% Afro-descendants. Most supratentorial astrocytomas (47%), astrocytic (35%), medulloblastomas (20%), ependymomas (11%), mixed unspecified gliomas (10%). Five-year entire 54% (95% CI, 51-58); gliomas, grade I 77%, II 62%, III-IV 27%, respectively, medulloblastoma 61%. adjusted hazard rate ratio III IV, those subtotal resection, brainstem location, receiving therapy 7.4 4.7–11.8), 6.4 4.2–9.8), 2.8 2.1–3.8), 2.0 1.3–2.8) 2.3 1.7–3.0), respectively. Conclusion found that half Colombia’s survive five years, compared 70% 80% high-income countries. In addition tumor biology gross total resection crucial improved cohort. Systematic monitoring its determinants provides empirical guiding control policies.
