ABSTRACT
Objective: To investigate the effect of dietary fiber intake during pregnancy on prevention gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) in women who are overweight/obese prior to pregnancy. Methods: This randomized controlled trial was conducted Shanghai General Hospital from June 2021 March 2022. A total 98 reported BMI≥24 kg/m 2 were recruited before their 20th week, and randomly (simple random allocation) assigned supplement group (12 g power twice daily) control (standard prenatal care) 20 24 +6 weeks. Both groups received nutrition education advice study. GDM diagnosis performed by an oral glucose tolerance test (OGTT) at 25–28 weeks’ gestation. Data presented as means with SD, medians IQR, or counts percentages appropriate. Comparisons using a t -test, Mann-Whitney U test, χ respectively. Results: The incidence significantly reduced compared group: 8.3 vs. 24.0% (χ = 4.40, p 0.036). At OGTT, mean fasting plasma lower than intervention (4.57 ± 0.38 mmol/L 4.41 0.29 mmol/L, < 0.01) but not (4.48 0.42 4.37 0.58 0.150). Compared group, TG TG/HDL-C ratio levels higher those (2.19 0.54 2.70 0.82 1.19 0.49 vs.1.63 0.63, respectively, all P <0.05). body weight gain (1.99 1.09 kg 2.53 1.20kg, 0.022). None experienced preterm birth (<37 weeks gestation) 12.0% ( 0.040). Excessive (total >11.5 for overweight, >9.0 obesity) occurred 46.7% 68.0% 0.035). There no differences other maternal neonatal outcomes. Conclusion: Increased pregnant may reduce risk GDM, excessive gain, birth, it did improve blood lipids.
