Adherence, belief, and knowledge about oral anticoagulants in patients with bioprosthetic heart valve replacement: a cross-sectional study

ABSTRACT
Aims: To investigate adherence to oral anticoagulants among patients after mechanical heart valve (BHV) replacement and further examine the mediating role of medication belief in relationship between knowledge adherence. Background: The number who undergo BHV has increased recent years. Short-term anticoagulant therapy is recommended for replacement. However, little known about underlying mechanisms with Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted September 2022 November 2022. convenience sample 323 underwent recruited from a tertiary public hospital Southwest China. Data were collected by using 8-item Morisky Medication Adherence Scale, Beliefs Medicines Questionnaire-specific, Knowledge Anticoagulation Questionnaire. mediation model tested Hayes’s PROCESS macro. STROBE checklist used. Results: Approximately 17.3% participants had low adherence, 47.1% medium only 35.6% reported high anticoagulants. necessity beliefs positively related while concern negatively correlated mediated Conclusion: Patients demonstrated relatively therapy. Efforts enhance should consider improving patients’ beliefs.
