ABSTRACT
Ethnopharmacological relevance Community-acquired pneumonia (CAP) is an acute inflammation of the alveoli and distal bronchi caused by bacterial, viral, or other pathogenic microbial infections. Yinhua Pinggan (YHPG) granules have demonstrated anti-inflammatory, antibacterial, antiviral effects, suggesting their potential as a treatment option for CAP. Aim To assess efficacy safety traditional Chinese medicine (TCM), YHPG granules, in combination with conventional treatments. Materials methods This randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled clinical trial was conducted at medical center Hangzhou involved 240 eligible participants. In addition to treatment, participants were randomly assigned 1:1 ratio receive either placebo 10 days. The primary outcome measure difference cure rates end treatment. Secondary outcomes included chest CT absorption rate, criticality score (SMART-COP score), Acute Physiology Chronic Health Evaluation II (APACHE II) score, C-reactive protein (CRP) level, lactate (LC) procalcitonin (PCT) time symptom recovery, length hospital stay, TCM syndrome scores. Results total, 229 analysis. rate granule group higher than that (37.2% vs. 22.4%, mean difference: 14.75%, 95% CI: 3.05–26.46, p < 0.05), indicating superiority granules. significantly improved severity, CRP LC levels ( 0.05). Additionally, resulted shorter recovery from fever lung rales, reduced lowered scores No significant differences observed between two groups > Notably, use associated fewer adverse reactions. Conclusion are promising adjunct therapeutic agent Clinical Trial Registration https://www.chictr.org.cn/showproj.html?proj=127908 , identifier ChiCTR2100047501.
