ABSTRACT
Complications generated by hyperglycemia present in diabetes mellitus (DM) have been constantly related to oxidative stress and dysfunction the mitochondrial electron transport chain (ETC). Sirtuin 3 (SIRT3), which is mitochondria, responsible for regulating several proteins involved metabolic homeostasis stress. Studies suggested alterations expression of SIRT3 DM. The objective this study was evaluate effects phenolic compounds jabuticaba ( Plinia trunciflora ), a berry native Brazil, on activity ETC complexes, protein expression, parameters liver diabetic rats induced streptozotocin. After type 1 DM induction (streptozotocin 65 mg/kg), healthy were treated with peel extract (JPE) gavage (0.5 g/kg weight) 30 days. treatments, those presented impaired activities complexes I, II, III along an overexpression SIRT3. In addition, increase lipid peroxidation superoxide dismutase catalase observed group. treatment JPE able recover reduce Furthermore, reduced damage lipids brought antioxidants enzyme basal levels rats. Together, these results demonstrate that can restoring expression. Thus, could become alternative development complications
