ABSTRACT
Soil salinization and alkalization severely inhibit agriculture. However, the response mechanisms of cotton to salt stress or alkali are unclear. Ionomics metabolomics were used investigate stresses in roots leaves. Compared with control, salt-treated alkali-treated plants showed 51.8 53.0% decreases biomass, respectively. Under stress, concentration N decreased but increased leaves, concentrations P K Salt inhibited Ca, B, N, Fe uptake Mg, K, P, S, Cu transport, promoted Mo, Mn, Zn, transport. leaves decreased, while increased. Alkali Fe, Zn Mg B Cu, 93 metabolites increased, mainly organic acids, amino sugars, abundance, 6 decreased. In roots, 72 18 96 including 83 sugars; 108 sugars. acids acids. adapts osmotic through accumulation under osmoregulation was achieved via inorganic ion accumulation. significant metabolic pathways associated acid metabolism, sugar metabolism as a source energy, related linoleic β-Oxidation, TCA cycle, glycolysis enhanced provide energy needed for life activities. Enhancing is key mechanism alkalinity.
