Levels of Reading Comprehension in Higher Education: Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis

ABSTRACT
Higher education aims for university students to produce knowledge from the critical reflection of scientific texts. Therefore, it is necessary develop a deep mental representation written information. The objective this research was determine through systematic review and meta-analysis proportion who have an optimal performance at each level reading comprehension. Systematic empirical studies has been limited 2010 March 2021 using Web Science, Scopus, Medline, PsycINFO databases. Two reviewers performed data extraction independently. A random-effects model proportions used heterogeneity assessed with I 2 . To analyze influence moderating variables, meta-regression two ways were study publication bias. Seven articles identified total sample seven 1,044. literal 56% (95% CI = 39–72%, 96.3%), inferential 33% 19–46%, 95.2%), 22% 9–35%, 99.04%), organizational 6–37%, 99.67%). Comparing comprehension levels, there significant higher compared rest levels. results be interpreted caution but are guide future research.
