Personality and Lockdown: A Study on Italian Undergraduates During the COVID-19 Pandemic

ABSTRACT
The current study aimed at increasing our understanding of the psychological impact COVID-19 lockdown on undergraduate students, particularly with respect to association between personality traits; defense mechanisms (DMs); depression, anxiety, and stress symptoms (DASSs); compliance government recommended health measures. A sample 1,427 Italian students were administered Personality Inventory for DSM-5—Brief Form; Defense Style Questionnaire-40; Depression, Anxiety Stress Scale-21. Compliance behavioral recommendations was measured through a 10-item survey measure. Results showed that immature DMs internalizing traits (i.e., detachment, negative affect, psychoticism) risk factors DASSs. Furthermore, subjects higher levels DASSs appeared less compliant measures by government. Experts may use these results identify subsequently support ( via Internet) young greater mental problems as result pandemic.
