Personality traits and risk of eating disorders among Polish women: the moderating role of self-esteem

Personality traits should be taken into account when diagnosing individuals with disordered eating behaviors in the hope of better understanding their etiology and symptom progression planning treatment. The objective this study was to attempt determine moderating role self-esteem relationships between personality included Big Five model among Polish women estimated risk disorders.The conducted 556 from Zachodniopomorskie Voivodeship. average age under 34 years. A diagnostic survey used as research method, empirical data were collected using following tools: NEO Five-Factor Inventory (NEO-FFI), Rosenberg Self-Esteem Scale (SES), ORTO - 15 Questionnaire, Three-Factor Eating Questionnaire (TFEQ-13), authors' original questionnaire. multivariate linear regression analysis examine influence selected independent variables. assumptions for satisfied, indicated by Ramsey Regression Equation Specification Error Test, White's test, Jarque-Bera test.Only trait neuroticism exhibits a statistically significant effect on "Cognitive Restraint Eating," "Uncontrolled "Emotional Eating" scores (p < 0.001). moderation demonstrated conscientiousness scale score. There is extraversion subscale score.Self-esteem not predictor occurrence disorders while playing relationship certain disorders. higher level identified an important results orthorexia, Cognitive Eating, Uncontrolled Emotional Eating. It also that orthorexia index decreased increased openness experience. suggest psychological factors interventions treatment clinical goal can considered improvement non-normative behaviors, such reduction overeating episodes or less frequently absence hunger feeling. In order assist these attempts achieve healthy variables related mental functioning then goals support efforts change health achieving well-being.
