Profile and characteristics of the adequacy of blood transfusions in Trauma Intensive Care. A cross sectional multicenter study

ABSTRACT
Introduction Major trauma is one of the major health care problems facing modern society, systems require careful planning to achieve an ideal level coverage for population. The Patient Blood Management Program integrated and global strategy provide patient that aims assess address, when possible, etiology blood abnormalities rather than transfuse without treating underlying cause. We aimed describe factors are associated with clinical decision polytraumatized patients admitted Intensive Care Unit (ICU). Method performed a cross sectional multicenter study ICUs in 14 Spanish hospitals from September 2020 December 2021. Results A total 69 were treated emergency room due polytrauma, 46% them considered serious initial triage. Thirty caused by fall considerable height (43.47%), followed 39 trac accidents (56.52%). location was mainly cranioencephalic, thoracic trauma. Of patients, 25 received transfusion during their ICU stay (36.23%). Discussion No significant differences observed between transfused non-transfused except severity scales, where have higher score on all scales assessed Revised Trauma Score. As we can see, incidence kidney failure also different groups analyzed, reaching 44.00% 13.64% group transfusion, p = 0.005. In this sense, 92.00% transfusions inadequate according criteria Hb prior (Hb < 9). Our data support need consider practice guidelines regarding its practices.
