ABSTRACT
The Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act, more commonly known as the ACA, was legislation passed in United States 2010 to expand access health insurance coverage for millions of Americans with a key emphasis on preventive care. Nutrition plays critical role overall wellness, disease prevention resilience chronic illness but prior ACA many did not have adequate ensure proper nutrition. With passage individuals received nutritional counseling through their primary care physicians well prescription vitamins supplements free charge. objective this study evaluate impact national reform nutrient intake among general population, including vulnerable low-income patients conditions. Using data from National Health Examination Survey (NHANES), we identified 8,443 adults aged 21 years older who participated survey before (2011–2012) after (2015–2016) implementation conducted subgroup analysis 952 respondents Medicaid beneficiaries 719 history cancer. pre-post design bivariate multivariable logistic analyses, compared food supplementation risk factors inadequate intake. Our results suggest that micronutrients found nutrient-dense foods, mainly fruit vegetables, has changed significantly ACA. However, use increased ( p = 0.05), particularly magnesium (OR 1.02), potassium 0.76), vitamin D (both D2, D3, OR 1.34), K 1.15) zinc 0.83), population those our Cancer Survivors Recipients. Given association expansion access, analysis, research is necessary understand effect increasing micro- macronutrients meet daily recommended allowances.
