ABSTRACT
Background: Pathologically, Meniere's disease symptoms are considered to be associated with endolymphatic hydrops. Examinations revealing hydrops can useful for accurate diagnosis. We previously reported a quantitative method evaluating hydrops, i.e., by measuring the volume of space using three-dimensional magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) inner ear. This study aimed confirm usefulness our methods diagnosing disease. Here, we extracted new explanatory factors comparing between healthy volunteers and patients Additionally, validated its diagnostic accuracy that conventional method. Methods Findings: is prospective performed at vertigo/dizziness centre university hospital, tertiary hospital. Eighty-six definite unilateral 47 (25 33 males, 22 53 females in control patient groups, respectively) were enrolled. All participants underwent 3-Tesla MRI 4 h after intravenous injection gadolinium reveal space. The was measured model diagnosis constructed compared models criteria effectiveness used. area under receiver operating characteristic curve proposed this excellent (0.924), significantly higher than derived (0.877). four indices, sensitivity, specificity, positive predictive value, negative given threshold; all these indices achieved scores 3D 2D model. Cross-validation revealed improvement due incorporation semi-circular canals. Conclusions: Our showed high importance observing canals contribute toward providing effective symptomatic relief
