ABSTRACT
Background: Emerging knowledge has highlighted the role of matrix metalloproteinase (MMP)-13 in osteoarthritis (OA); however, suitability MMP-13 as a biomarker for OA remains unclear. Therefore, this study aimed to assess potential value OA. Methods: The enrolled 51 patients, which 33 had advanced varus and 18 did not have Immunohistochemistry western blotting analyses were performed measure activity cartilage subchondral bone patients with Enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay was used serum levels or without Western Ontario McMaster Universities Osteoarthritis Index (WOMAC) association between clinical symptoms. Furthermore, radiological severity evaluated using Kellgren-Lawrence (KL) grading system. Finally, we built proportional odds logistic regression models evaluate predictor Results: significantly higher severe-worn medial tibial plateau than relatively intact portion lateral (p < 0.05). This contrary findings differential expression knee Patients compared Additionally, remarkable associations among levels, WOMAC scores, KL scores found end-stage subsequent analysis suggested that level significant Conclusion: is valuable diagnosing, measuring disease severity, predicting period disease, suggesting it possibility However, underlying mechanisms application require be further investigated.
