ABSTRACT
The chronic complications of diabetes mellitus (DM) are accompanied by inflammatory manifestations. Our study aimed to evaluate a possible association between the status (reflected serum chitotriosidase and neopterin) timely evolution occurrence microvascular in patients with type 1 DM. This observational, cross-sectional included 82 DM from Centre for Diabetes, Nutrition Metabolic Diseases, Cluj-Napoca, Romania. results demonstrated link extent inflammation, evaluated enzymatic activity circulating chitotriosidase, onset complications, especially diabetic neuropathy retinopathy. Chitotriosidase showed an ascending over time. In non-smoking patients, increase was correlated microalbuminuria decline glomerular filtration rate, while smokers, only presence positive correlation disease progression noticed. According our results, time span moment diagnosis longer non-smokers than smokers. These also imply that increased may be predictor endothelial dysfunction
