Validation of the Romanian Version of the Toronto Empathy Questionnaire (TEQ) among Undergraduate Medical Students

ABSTRACT
Medical professionals require adequate abilities to identify others’ emotions and express personal emotions. We aimed determine the validity reliability of an empathy measuring tool in medical students for this study. employed Spreng’s Toronto Empathy Questionnaire (TEQ) as a starting point validation. The process was performed several steps, including English-Romanian-English translation focus group meeting establish each question’s degree understandability usability, with minor improvements wording step. checked internal external consistency pilot (n = 67). For construct convergent validity, we used sample 649 students. overall well, Cronbach’s alpha 0.727 respective ICC 0.776. principal component analysis resulted 3 components: prosocial helping behavior, inappropriate sensitivity, dismissive attitude. Component 1 includes positively worded questions, components 2 include negatively questions. Women had significantly higher scores than men but did not highlight any differences other demographic factors. Romanian version TEQ is reliable valid measure among undergraduate that may be further subsequent research.
