Knowledge and Perception of and Attitude toward a Premarital Screening Program in Qatar: A Cross-Sectional Study

ABSTRACT
Premarital screening (PMS) is a primary preventive measure to decrease the incidence of certain genetic disorders and sexually transmitted diseases. This study aimed explore knowledge perception attitude toward PMS predictors attitude. A cross-sectional was conducted among Qatar University students using an online survey. Multivariable regression analyses were used identify factors associated with total 476 participated in study; 424 (89.1%) females; two-thirds 18–21 years old. Only 100 participants had heard about PMS. Knowledge significantly females, enrolled health-related college, non-consanguineous marriage participant’s parents. The majority agreed that diseases are psychological economic burdens. For attitude, only 178 willing cancel marriages, given incompatible results. following positively attitude: knowledge, enrollment belief does not interfere destiny. Our findings revealed despite mandatory Qatar, participants, future couples, low program. Therefore, strategies increase awareness should be considered improving its outcomes.
