ABSTRACT
Agro-industrial residues are low-cost carbon sources (C-sources) for microbial growth and production of value-added bioproducts. Among the agro-industrial available, those rich in pectin generated high amounts worldwide from sugar industry or industrial processing fruits vegetables. Sugar beet pulp (SBP) hydrolysates contain predominantly neutral sugars d-glucose, l-arabinose d-galactose, acidic d-galacturonic acid. Acetic acid is also present at significant concentrations since acetylated. In this study, we have examined optimized performance a Rhodotorula mucilaginosa strain, isolated SBP identified molecular level during work. This study was extended to another oleaginous red yeast species, R. toruloides, envisaging full utilization C-sources hydrolysate (at pH 5.0). The dual role acetic as energy source metabolism inhibitor examined. prevented catabolism after complete use other C-sources. However, d-glucose were simultaneously efficiently metabolized, followed by d-galactose. supplementation with amino acids crucial allow catabolism. valorization through lipids carotenoids strains, supported major present, looks promising implementation.
