Begomoviruses can be found in association with alphasatellites, which are capable of autonomous replication but dependent on the helper begomovirus for systemic infection, encapsidation and vector transmission. Previous studies suggest that presence NW alphasatellites (genus Clecrusatellite) is associated more severe symptoms.
