ABSTRACT
(1) Background: Upconversion nanoparticles (UCNPs) are a promising tool for biological tissue structure visualization and photodynamic therapy (PDT). The luminescence of such NPs is excited in the spectrum’s near-infrared (NIR) region, while luminesce visible region. Conjugating with dyes that absorb their makes it possible to increase depth at which PDT performed. (2) Methods: We conducted comprehensive study on possibility using NaYF4:Er:Yb UCNPs vivo imaging PDT. were synthesized by hydrothermal method. synthesis size 80 nm hexagonal was demonstrated. (3) Results: accumulation organs after intravenous injection into rats studied. effect shape, size, degree aggregation red blood cells (RBC) also investigated. (4) Conclusions: luminescent histological sections subcutaneous distribution All investigated particles showed moderate toxicity, causing mostly reversible changes.
