ABSTRACT
Background: Citrullus colocynthis L. (C. colocynthis) is commonly known as colocynth. It belongs to the family Cucurbitaceae that frequently used in alternative medicine north of Africa. The aim study: present research was undertaken investigate chemical composition, antioxidant, antiproliferative, and antibacterial potentials C. seed extract. Material methods: composition organic extract characterized using gas chromatography/mass spectrometry (GC-MS). antioxidant property carried out both β-carotene bleaching DPPH assays. effect effectuated agar disc diffusion method. antiproliferative activity vs. human colorectal adenocarcinoma cell line (HT-29) breast (MDA MB 231) were by WST-1 test. analysis showed presence interesting potentially bioactive compounds. studied plant exhibited potential with IC50 value 2. 22 mg/mL (β-carotene bleaching) 8.98 ± 0.619 (DPPH). Concerning activity, effective MDA-MB-231 HT-29 cancer cells values 86.89 3.395 242.1 17.9 μg/mL, respectively, whilst seeds non-toxic healthy dermal fibroblasts. Regarding test, Gram-positive bacteria only. Conclusion: outcome this indicated extracts from may compose a promising source compounds can be fight cancer, free radicals damage, bacterial infections.
