ABSTRACT
Background: The rate of cardiac device–related infective endocarditis (CDRIE) is increasing worldwide, but no detailed data are available for Poland. Aims: We aimed to evaluate clinical, diagnostic, and therapeutic patients hospitalized due CDRIE in 22 Polish referential cardiology centers from May 1, 2016 2017. Methods: Participating departments were asked fill a questionnaire that included on the number patients, types implanted electrotherapy devices, cases. also collected clinical regarding management with CDRIE. Results: Overall, 99 621 hospitalizations reported. Infective unrelated device was cause 596 admissions (0.6%), CDRIE, 195 (0.2%). Pacemaker 91 (47%); cardioverter‑defibrillator, 51 (26%); resynchronization therapy‑defibrillator, 48 (25%); therapy‑pacemaker, 5 (2.5%). most common symptoms malaise (62%), fever/chills (61%), cough (21%), chest pain (19.5%), inflammation pocket (5.6%). Cultures positive 77.5% patients. removed 91% percutaneous approach removal. All received antibiotic therapy, 3 underwent heart valve procedure. Transesophageal echocardiography performed 80% complication failure (25% patients). Conclusions: profile, pathogen types, strategies consistent similar other European countries. less frequently than recommended. removal population general rates observed interventional treatment
