Ethics Education in Korean Medical Schools

ABSTRACT
Ever since two Christian medical schools, one Catholic and protestant began teaching ethics to the students as a regular subject in early 1980s, number of schools adopting course has been steadily increased importance stressed various literatures. However, few data exist describing current practices education Korea. This study aimed find out how many are including their curricula analyze pattern by type school, years founded class size schools. Major findings obtained from this follows: 1. All 41 Korea were providing course; 37 an integrated/special lectures rest 4 2. Thirty three schools(80.5%) reported year only 8 more than 2 years. Two courses 5 Sixteen schools(39.0%) third 12 schools(29.3%), second or pre-medical course. 3. Mean hours for was 29.7±24.1 (range: 5-136), mean credits 1.6±1.4 0-8). 4. Most common content areas taught Korean 'ethical concept'(in 39 schools), 'reproductive ethics' (in principles', 'dr-patient relationship', 'death dying 36 schools). Twenty four schools(58.5%) using materials developed themselves faculties, but 19 schools(46.3%) textbook based on learning objectives published Society Medical Ethics Education.
