ABSTRACT

Coal-fired power plants (CFPP) are a significant resource for flexibility regulation of systems containing high proportion renewable energy (RE). This paper presents an extended study the technology co-firing coal and ammonia, which can decarbonize CFPP. The excess RE produces green hydrogen, converted into ammonia CFPP combustion. Moreover, this system has storage features that cope with short-term fluctuations store utilize seasonally. In paper, system’s complex coupled thermal electrical rocesses simplified characterized as mixed integer linear programming (MILP) model first time. Furthermore, operation is simulated at two time scales five days full year. Finally, sensitivity efficiency analyses performed. results shows maximum ratio increases, total cost (TOC), carbon emission (CE), curtailment decreasing trend. Therefore, ammonia-coal recommended to be 25% compromise TOC exhaust gas emission. situation, CE will decrease by 8.59% 12.74%, respectively, compared scenario without technology. overall synthesis combustion generation about 13.92%.
